José Javier Muñoz, a 43-year-old man from Miranda, Cauca, died on October 6 in Africa after having a work accident.
According to his niece, he fell from a high shelf and had a skull fracture. He was left in a coma and the doctors could do nothing to save his life.
He had traveled to that continent two years ago to seek better job opportunities. There he worked in a commercial product distribution company that hired him since he was in Colombia.
For political reasons, the family has not been able to repatriate the body. According to his relatives, workplace safety regulations are complex for a foreign national.
According to his niece, the airlines have confirmed availability of flights to process the repatriation, but it is the employing company that gives the refusal.
In addition, there are other circumstances that have raised suspicions. For example, they contacted another relative who works for the same company in another city and he told them that the owner of the distributor had offered him a better position in exchange for allowing Javier to be buried in Africa.
A sister of the victim fears that the body will be buried in a common grave as there is no person nearby.
His parents are also going through a very difficult time and yearn, at least, to see the body for the last time to give it a Christian burial.
