Santiago Arias traveled this Sunday from Barranquilla to Bogotá and next week he will take a flight to Madrid (Spain), where he will be operated on for the fracture in the fibula of the left leg.

The full-back of the Colombian National Team and Bayer Leverkusen was in a wheelchair and was seen to be psyched up in the recovery process, which will take between four and six months.

Arias spoke exclusively with Gol Caracol and said that he hopes the whole process will be quick, to be back on the pitch with his club and with the Colombian National Team.

“Above all, I am positive, always thinking of returning as quickly as possible and doing rehabilitation as quickly as possible too, to be in the fields and hope that everything goes well, “said the player.

“Nothing better than that the team has won, that I have obtained the points and that they have dedicated it to me. It is a triumph for all of Colombia… In this job you are exposed to this type of injury and well, now I have to go, have the surgery and quickly return to what I like to do, “he added.

Finally, he thanked the fans and asked them to continue supporting the team, because there are still many games in the Playoffs.

Grateful to all Colombians, with those who are there to support us, and nothing, go ahead, there are many games left and we hope they continue to support us, “he concluded.

It should be remembered that Santiago Arias suffered this injury when he tried to avoid a center on the right side, in the first minutes of the match between Colombia and Venezuela, last Friday, on the first date of the Qualifiers.

The 28-year-old soccer player from Antioquia left the field on a stretcher, with clear signs of pain, and Stefan Medina, from Mexican Monterrey, entered his place.
