Under the motto “Reinvent movement”, the company Ford Motors brought to Colombia the first fully hybrid truck of its brand: the new Ford Escape, which represents the fourth generation of this Ford model.
The new Escape, has a technology that combines both electric motor and gasoline engine, which makes it one of the most innovative bets in the automotive industry.
The new vehicle will have four versions: two of them fully hybrid and the other two with Turbo Ecoboost engines. The one that was launched on April 24 was the ‘Titanium Hybrid’, which represents the top of the line, the other versions will arrive in the coming weeks.
That’s how it works
The engines of the new Escape are controlled by an advanced system, which makes the vehicle first run in electric mode and then switch to the fuel engine when the driving mode demands it or more power is needed.
Also the set has a displacement of 2.5 liters capable of developing up to 200 horsepower.
“It is important to note that the speed threshold that can be reached in 100% electric mode is quite high. In tests conducted under a controlled environment, the vehicle managed to reach up to 130 km / h without driving the gasoline engine. The above shows the capacity of the electric motor and if it is about efficiency, it also registered consumption of up to 90 km / gallon, ”said Carlos Rodríguez, Brand Manager of Ford Colombia.
The vehicle also has an automatic energy recovery system called “regenerative braking” that reduces consumption levels.
“More than 90% of the braking kinetic energy is converted into electrical energy. Thanks to this technology, the battery recharges automatically. Regarding the battery, its temperature is regulated with coolant, unlike other hybrids that use a fan. This lengthens the longevity of the battery and prevents heat transfer to the passenger compartment. In addition, it is 60% smaller (which reduces the weight of the vehicle) and has 30% more storage capacity than conventional batteries. Finally, it has been strategically located in the center of the vehicle, under the floor, lowering its center of gravity and without invading the interior space at all, “added Rodríguez, who also noted that the battery has a guarantee of eight years.

As for how the vehicle is made, it allows to accommodate five occupants, the second row seats are sliding and allow to increase the capacity of the trunk if required. In addition, the trunk has an electric opening: it can be raised simply by stepping under the rear bumper.
The new Ford Escape also features a wireless charging system for cell phones, an LED lighting system, a SYNC 3.4 connectivity system with an 8 ”touch screen, and a front color display screen, which provides information on calls, GPS and assistance to the driver, without taking your eyes off the road.
At the same time, it will be the first vehicle of the brand in Colombia to have a parking assistant 2.0, which allows the van to park on its own.
In terms of safety, it has an evasive driving assistant, anti-collision assistant and adaptive speed control that brings the innovation of the automotive industry closer to autonomous driving. It also has 7 airbags, a fatigue detector to alert the driver and also a monitoring system that allows detecting when another vehicle is in the adjacent lane within a blind spot.
The price
The Ford Escape pickup, Titanium AWD Hybrid, will be available at all Ford dealerships in the country after the quarantine period ends, priced at $ 147,990,000.
