The increase that has occurred in recent days in cases of COVID-19 in Bogota
led Mayor Claudia López to make a call to the community not to have to return to the restrictions.

This Thursday, the number of infections was 1,254 cases and the second peak is close.

“We believe that it is perfectly possible. If we all stand on our side, we are able to go through the second peak of the pandemic without having to have too restrictive measures”Said the mayor of Bogotá.

To avoid these measures, the authorities follow the level of infections in the city step by step.

In the last three days, the behavior of the new cases has been the following:

  • Tuesday, October 6: 2,409 cases
  • Wednesday October 7: 2,286
  • Thursday, October 8: 1,254 new cases

In terms of deceased persons, although the average during the last week has remained between 20 and 25 daily cases, on Wednesday the figure had a considerable increase when it practically doubled the average.

  • Monday October 5: 20
  • Tuesday 6:25 am
  • Wednesday 7:40 am
  • Thursday: 32

Figures that, although they fell today, reflect the lack of care of many people in the midst of the economic and social reactivation of the city, something of which some Bogota citizens are aware.
“We are without masks, there are people who do not wash their hands, I would be willing to lock us up for 15 days”, Alfonso Martínez, a worker from the capital, accepted.

The opinion of this person regarding what happens in the city is the one that Claudia López turns to to warn under what condition the restrictive measures return.

“If the speed is moderate in the growth of infections, we managed to pass without quarantines; if the speed is triggered, we are forced to restrictive measures, which is not ideal “, López indicated.

In terms of occupancy of intensive care and hospitalization units, this has increased slightly, reaching 49.5 percent, a figure that gives some peace of mind in the face of the new outbreak that is expected in November.
