Relive the key moments of the debate below.

Balance of the debate

Far from the combative tone of the past debate between Trump and Biden, vice-presidential formulas Kamala Harris and Mike Pence held the first (and only) face to face between the two.

Harris insistently attacked the Trump administration’s management of the pandemic and explained several of his campaign’s programmatic proposals.

For his part, Pence tried to highlight the achievements of the four years in office and pointed to China as the culprit of the pandemic.

Next topic: racism in the United States

“Harris and Biden insist that there is systemic racism in the United States and Biden says that law enforcement has an implicit bias against minorities and that is an insult to the men who are part of the security forces,” Mike Pence told purpose of racism in America.

Meanwhile, Trump’s reaction to the debate

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, affirmed this Wednesday that the Democratic candidate for the Vice Presidency, Kamala
Harris, is a “blunder machine”, while praising the performance of the vice president, Mike Pence, in the debate against the progressive.

“Mike Pence is doing GREAT! She is a blunder machine,” Trump said on Twitter, in a gesture that showed he is watching face-to-face from the White House, where he is confined due to covid-19.

Trump has a strange obsession with Obama: Harris

Biden’s vice presidential formula said Trump has a strange obsession with downplaying the achievements of Obama and Biden. “There was a group of health experts that Obama sent to China to monitor pandemics in the world and the Trump government removed them,” Harris said after Pence’s remarks against China.

‘Biden is a cheerleader for communist China’

Mike Pence said Joe Biden is not going to fight the trade war against China. And he even assured that “Biden is an animator of communist China.”

On the other hand, the moderator asked him what was the current vice’s opinion on China. “China is to blame for the coronavirus and Trump is unhappy. Neither China nor the WHO spoke directly to the American people,” Pence added.

Third theme: climate change

Harris said the Trump administration removed the word science from its website and the word climate change, “because they don’t believe in science.”

“When Donald Trump was asked about the fires, he said, ‘Science doesn’t know about this,'” Harris said.

What Pence says about Biden and the economy

“Biden and Harris said they will increase taxes. They want to bury the economy by abolishing fossil fuels and abolishing ‘fracking’ and they are going to beat and yield to China. Biden wants to repeal all the tariffs that Trump put in place,” he added.

“Joe Biden is not going to raise taxes on people who earn less than $ 400,000 and he will not abolish fracking,” Harris defended.

Second topic: economy

Kamala Harris said there is a fundamental difference between Trump and Biden. “Trump measures economic strength based on how the rich do, so he approved a project that benefits the largest US corporations that has led to a deficit of 2 trillion dollars,” he said.

‘Donald Trump has been covering up everything’: Harris

“Joe Biden has been transparent compared to Donald Trump. Not only with his health, but also with regard to taxes. (…) Donald trump is in debt and it would be convenient to know who he owes money to, because the people have the right to know whether the president makes decisions in his own interest or in the interest of the American people, “said Kamala Harris.

Why isn’t the White House following the recommendations?

The moderator asked Pence why the White House does not follow the biosecurity guidelines given by the authorities.

The question arose because during a meeting in the garden of the presidential residence several people were not wearing masks.

“The difference is that we trust the people of the United States and that they can discern the information that the authorities give them,” was part of the answer that Pence gave.

First topic: the pandemic

Kamala Harris starts talking about the coronavirus and said that the pandemic “has been the worst tragedy” in the country. Biden’s formula harshly attacked the Trump administration and said they covered up the severity of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the moderator asked Pence why the US has so many deaths from the virus. Trump’s ‘vice’ says the president “put health first.” He also defended himself, saying that Biden considered the decision to ban travel from China “xenophobic”.

Start the debate!

At this time the debate begins, moderated by Susan Page, a journalist for USA TODAY. This will be the only face-to-face among the vice-presidential formulas.

The debate will take place in 9 blocks of 10 minutes, without interruptions or commercials.

Protection against virus in debate

When the Vice President of the United States, Mike
Pence, and Sen. Kamala Harris debate Wednesday night, will be separated by Plexiglas partitions, but these barriers will not protect them from a possible COVID-19 infection, experts warned.

As reported, neither of the two vice presidential candidates has tested positive for coronavirus, but since they do not plan to wear masks a priori, the risk of contagion cannot be completely ruled out.
