The department reported 551 new cases of covid-19 and 16 deaths from the virus this October 7

551 new cases of covid-19 were registered in Valle del Cauca in the last 24 hours, according to the report delivered this Wednesday by the Ministry of Health.

The department accumulates a total of 66,796 infections of the new coronavirus since the pandemic reached the national territory.

Health authorities also confirmed 16 new deaths from the virus in the region. The deaths occurred in Cali (8), El Cerrito (2), Palmira (2), Jamundí, Seville, Tuluá and Florida.

In total, in Valle del Cauca there have been 2,394 deaths, 70.5% of them in Cali, the capital (1,688).

National overview

The total number of covid-19 cases in Colombia reached 877,683 this Wednesday, of which 74,586 are active, after 7,875 new infections were reported between this Tuesday and Wednesday. According to the epidemiological bulletin, 37,552 tests, 25,357 PCR and 12,195 antigens were processed.

The regions with the most new cases were Bogotá (2,286), Antioquia (1,080), Valle del Cauca (551), Cundinamarca (415) and Santander (367).

The health authorities also confirmed 3,161 recovered and 163 deaths from the virus, of which 151 correspond to deaths registered more than a day ago.

With the above, the number of people who have overcome the disease in the country reached 773,973, while deaths reached 27,180.

Colombia is the fifth country in the world with the most infections, behind the United States, India, Brazil and Russia, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

In deaths, the country ranks eleventh, behind the United States, Brazil, India, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Italy, Peru, France, Spain and Iran.
