According to a study published by the University of Oxford, the coronavirus can remain on the skin of humans for up to nine hours, which confirms the risk of transmission by contact.

Researchers evaluated the stability of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza virus, mixed with culture medium or upper respiratory secretions, on human skin surfaces.

SARS-CoV-2 and the influenza virus inactivated faster on skin surfaces than on others (stainless steel, glass, plastic). Survival time was significantly longer for SARS-CoV-2 and reached a survival of nine against almost two hours of the influenza virus.

Specifically, according to the results of the research, the new coronavirus can survive on human skin, exactly, between 7.96 hours and 10.2 hours with a confidence interval of 95%.

However, the researchers also showed that, despite this survival, Exposure of the virus to 80% ethanol (alcohol) inactivated it in the first 15 seconds.

What to do?

Nothing extraordinary, but what has been said since this virus began to spread: wash hands constantly with soap and water and alternatively use disinfectants certified to clean hands and areas exposed to contact with secretions.
