Deportivo Independiente Medellín was not even the shadow of that team that surprised Caracas as a visitor and lost again in the League against La Equidad, staying far from the fight to reach the group of eight. At the end of the game, the coach in charge Ricardo Calle spoke about the game, supported the young people and emphasized that they must continue working to improve, especially in definition.
“There is no doubt that if he had converted the penalty perhaps the story would have been different. But we leave with a defeat ending the match. We knew that it was important to add in this game, that we had to stay focused, stuck until the referee whistles and we are sad for Medellín because I think we could have gotten all three points or at least one point ”, commented Calle.
Regarding the analysis of the game, “we knew it was a difficult match, coming to Bogotá is difficult. Equidad is a very strong home team that scores a lot of goals, but I think the opinions are respectable, but even though we didn’t play a good game, it was a game that we were able to get a better result. This is a young team, we have six or seven referents, big men and when we have young men these things happen. We have to work hard on definition, we made transitions where we didn’t make good decisions ”.
Ricardo pointed out that Medellín is a team in transition and that there are many young people who are just gaining experience in professional soccer. “We have to make it clear that it is a young team, not everyone has experience and that’s where the ups and downs come from. We want to have regularity, but it hardly happens, we are in this process and we must continue to improve in these aspects ”.
Thinking about the games that remain in the calendar, nine in total, where they have little margin of error to aspire to a new instance in the championship, Ricardo said that “this changes with work, now Professor Javier (Álvarez) is going to be at the head of the team and see what the team should improve, this is work, we are a young team that over time will give us the results we want. In this game we go with a defeat, but if we had scored that penalty, they would ask them differently ”.
Faced with the question where they asked him in which positions they should reinforce thinking about 2021, Calle did not answer. “That question is difficult for me to answer, coach Javier (Álvarez) is the one who must decide in which positions we should reinforce.”
Finally, he spoke of Mauricio Cortés who had a night where he failed to be key on the attack front. “Mauricio (Cortés) is an unbalancing player, who has a start and speed. In this game he was not at a good level, but over time we hope that he meets expectations ”.
