A couple was sentenced to pay for community services after facing a lengthy trial for feeding her daughter a vegan diet that caused malnutrition and permanent brain damage.
In late September, the parents, whose names have not been released for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to negligence in a court in Victoria County, Australia.

It all started in August 2018 when the minor, who was barely a year old at the time, was admitted to an emergency hospital in Geelong, a city in Victoria.

Only when the parents noticed that their little girl was not improving, they decided to go to the hospital.

At the medical center, specialists examined the baby and found that her body was covered with bruises, sores, skin rashes and discolored areas.
Post tests The minor was diagnosed with kwashiorkor, a malnutrition caused by protein deficiency, the Court reported.
An old problem
After the result, the professionals inquired about the girl’s ‘complete diet’.
They found that after she was weaned in late 2017, they gave him coconut milk with different powders, smoothies and fruit juicesa, something that the hospital staff who treated her considered as “inappropriate” before the Court of trial.
