Starting this Thursday, October 1, Playa Azul, diagonal to the La Américas hotel, will have 96 modules, each with an umbrella and up to six seats, so that tourists and locals enjoy a midday on the beach with due social distancing and biosecurity.

The inauguration of this pilot beach was in charge of the mayor of Cartagena himself, William Dau, who even took a sea bath.

Playa Azul has a food court, public restrooms, an emergency care post and a lifeguard booth.

It is only possible to enter Playa Azul with a mask and after taking a temperature by officials of the Mayor’s Office of Cartagena.

María Claudia Peña, District advisor for the reopening of the city in the midst of the Pandemic, assured that with the opening of this beach, 100% of the productive and economic sectors are already working.

In addition, in the next few days three more beaches will be opened in the tourist sector of Bocagrande. The same is also expected in the island areas, all with controls.

The president called on citizens to maintain protection measures.

Now that the city does not have a peak and ID, we have to be more responsible, with my own life and that of others ”, said the president.

Despite the good news, Mayor Dau drew attention to the costs with which the loan of the umbrellas and quadrants began, as the merchants set the price of 40,000 pesos, a value that he considered exaggerated.

“That I will not allow. Why are they going to charge 40 thousand pesos for furniture delivered by the private company, “the mayor angrily rebuked his officials.

Camilo Jaramillo and Lina Baracaldo were the first tourists to enter the beach, located on the road to Barranquilla.

“We arrived two months ago for new opportunities to live in Cartagena and we have not entered the sea. We have been very aware of everything that the Mayor’s Office has announced, and yesterday they just published the link, we signed up. The reservation was very easy, we followed the steps and we are very happy to finally reach the sea and bathe, ”said Jaramillo.

During the day, the tourism police wrote a summons to a citizen who took a dog to the beach and the animal defecated. Despite the fact that the citizen collected the waste, she must go to a Police inspection to be fined.

Citizens who wish to enjoy a half day at the beach should make their reservations via the web at: reservadeplayas.cartagena.gov.co

The first biosecure beach in the city is also a wish of the people of Cartagena who have been waiting for order on the beaches for years.
