Do you want to work in Canada? These are the requirements | THE UNIVERSAL

It is no secret to anyone that the pandemic increased the unemployment rate in the country and despite the economic reactivation that has been implemented little by little, there are still many Colombians who have not found job opportunities.

Faced with this difficult situation, many people have sought to emigrate to other countries and one of the options is Canada, but not everyone can apply to work in this place.

Through El Tiempo, Jesús Hernández, advisor to the CI Canada consulting firm, said that there are two regulations that allow recruiting employees in that country, but all depend on the particular needs of each province, since Canada is a federal country and regional governments they have a high capacity to choose their norms.

The first thing people who want to work in Canada must do is have a work permit, which is obtained through two programs.

One of those is called a Labor Market Impact Study (Lmia).

“The Lmia is that the employer justifies to the Canadian Government that there is no Canadian in the territory of the company that covers this work for which the foreigner is needed,” explained Hernández.

He added that the other program “depends on the person interested in living in Canada having a ban exempted from the list of justified jobs. This list can be avoided thanks to the commercial agreements between Canada and Colombia, which allow this flow of trained people to the North American country ”.

In addition, among the requirements it is also important to highlight that you must have a good level of the language of the province in which you want to live, that is, you must know French if you choose to go to Quebec and English for the other provinces; be under 35 years of age, have no chronic illnesses and have proven professions or trades, or a history.

“Although in Colombia it is not serious, for example, having a fine for driving while impaired, in Canada it is serious. Therefore, applicants must always keep this type of background in mind and be honest when interviewing, “said the legal consultant.

On the other hand, Hernández indicated that “employment is provided first to Canadians and then, if there is a vacancy, space is opened for foreigners.”

Among the most successful trades in Canada are some such as systems engineer, machine operator or farm worker. However, others such as a journalist or lawyer are more complicated to pass.
