Juliana Giraldo Díaz’s body was left disgraced in the co-pilot position of a white vehicle that was moving through the rural area of Miranda, Cauca, on the morning of this Thursday, September 24.
A desperate man ran from one side to the other. “My God, help me make this video viral”, scream.
His pleas continued: “They killed Juliana, that man (a soldier) shot him in the head. Help me, please.”

When I looked at my partner, he was in the passenger seat with his head down and his brains had been blown all over the place.
That man who was crying disconsolate was Francisco Larrañaga, the sentimental partner of Juliana Giraldo Díaz, the 38-year-old woman whose murder has left the country in dismay.
Larrañaga told EL TIEMPO that on Thursday morning he was heading with Juliana and two other people to Corinto, also in Cauca, to buy spare parts.

At that moment, the young man said, two soldiers from the mountains appeared and shot them.
“When I looked at my partner, he was in the passenger seat with his head down and his brains had flown all over the place.” lament.
The actions of the soldiers did not measure any type of force against the people who were mobilizing in the white vehicle. In fact, says the victim’s partner, the bullets also pierced the tires and roof of the car.
Like Larrañaga, the other two companions ran off in despair after the attack, but Juliana was left in the seat by the fatal shot to the head.
The young man, who is a chicken and fish merchant in Miranda, said that after what happened he went out in search of help to the people. It was the indigenous council that immediately moved to the place and cordoned off the site.

“They helped me a lot, without their help, everything would have been monopolized and everything would have remained there”, he indicated.
Larrañaga said that neither he nor his partner have a criminal record to have been subject to review at this apparent checkpoint. He added that there were no cones or signs of any kind, to speak of a checkpoint as such.
Our ‘crime’ was to make the turn in the middle of the public highway so that they would come out of the mountain to shoot us
“We don’t have weapons, we don’t have drugs or records, we work with food. It is not a vehicle that has a problem, neither are the people who were inside it. Our ‘crime’ was to turn around in the middle of the public highway so that they would come out of the mountains to shoot us, “he said.
A witness to what happened said that the Army uniform who shot them acknowledged his mistake after inspecting the vehicle and found nothing.
“I screwed up, screwed up”, the witness said about the soldier’s reaction.

The witness to the incident also said that he saw when other Army uniforms lifted the casings of the fired bullets. “It’s like they are trying to cover up themselves,” he added.
Aura Díaz, sister of the deceased, arrived at the place of Juliana’s death, who asked the National Police and the Army to stop committing these actions.
“This is heartbreaking, it is very sad. The only thing I ask the President (Iván Duque) is to support me in bringing my mother, to say the last goodbye to my sister. She is in Spain and it is not possible to leave right now, “Aura said.

Gloria Díaz, mother of Juliana, who was a stylist in Miranda, requested a humanitarian flight to be able to attend her daughter’s funeral service.
For his part, the Minister of Defense, Carlos Holmes Trujillo, assured that the uniformed officer involved in the death of the woman had already been suspended and indicated that the judicial authorities are conducting preliminary investigations.
“The personnel involved in the act will be separated from their functions and has been placed at the disposal of the competent authorities, for the actions that correspond by law”, Holmes Trujillo stated.

The Attorney General’s Office, in this case, indicated that an expert prosecutor was assigned to address, together with the work team, a differential perspective that also addresses the gender identity of the victim.
“The Office of the Attorney General of the Nation regrets this new act of violence that grieves the transgender population of Colombia and expresses its solidarity and commitment to the incorporation of an approach that respects the gender identity of the victim, in line with the guidelines outlined by the Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa ”, specified the Prosecutor’s Office.

The Army also assumed that, in effect, a soldier shot the vehicle, killing one of the crew.
“A woman was killed by a gunshot by a member of the Force. The unit immediately reports what happened and is made known to the competent authorities, so that in their investigation process they determine the time, manner and place of what happened, “said the Specific Command of Cauca in a statement.
Juliana Giraldo’s body remains in Forensic Medicine where they will undergo the necropsy process, then she will be buried in Miranda, where she had lived with her partner for two years. The woman was a native of Jamundí.
