The congressman assures that he had access to several documents from the Administrative Directorate of the Police, which account for millionaire sums of money that the institution intends to spend in the midst of the pandemic.

As stated by Senator Wilson Arias in a statement sent to the media, “equipment used by ESMAD such as grenades, explosives, riot suits and even caps, for an estimated value, between the four contracts, of $ 13,800 million ”.

This amount would also include the purchase of shields, helmets and other protective elements for the uniformed. In addition, one of the contracts would include the preparation of an opinion survey to know the public perception of the Police, adds Arias in his complaint.

Pulzo tried to contact the Directorate of the National Police to find out details about the contracts and an eventual response to the senator’s complaint, but no response was possible. In the document, the congressman also details each of the contracts. For example, in one published on August 25, 2020, the “acquisition of riot protection equipment” is argued.

“It is specified that the institution plans to invest more than $ 5,600 million to provide the Police with special armor that includes body protectors, shields, tactical helmets and anti-riot shin guards, used in social demonstrations,” says Senator Arias.

A second contract, says the congressman, was filed on July 21, 2020, and focuses on the purchase of caps “type baseball.” According to the contract, each cap has a cost of $ 25,950 and 250,000 will be acquired, for a value that exceeds $ 6,400 million, the complaint states.

“The third call was filed on September 3, 2020 by the same institution, and its objective is to” carry out, apply and analyze surveys “that allow the citizenry to measure the image of the Police and Esmad,” adds the senator .

So far the National Police has not referred to this complaint to buy this type of provision in the middle of an emergency due to a pandemic.
