Four soldiers killed and five “terrorists” arrested left an operation in the state of Apure, bordering Colombia, in which three camps were “neutralized”, the Venezuelan Ministry of Defense reported this Sunday.
“As a result of the operation, five terrorists were detained, who were seized: five assault rifles, three automatic pistols, abundant cartridges of different caliber, camouflaged uniforms, audiovisual and telephone equipment, as well as various military supplies,” he said. the ministry statement.
In the event recorded on Saturday, four soldiers died. Four others were injured and “are kept under strict medical observation.”
“It can be pointed out that it was an operation in alliance with the ELN, to act against this tenth front of the FARC dissidents, which is also in confrontation with Santrich and Iván Márquez,” affirms Javier Tarazona, director of Fundaredes NGO.
The “neutralization of three camps” where groups dedicated to kidnapping, extortion, drug trafficking and other crimes operated, was achieved “based on intelligence information,” the text said, without offering further details.
According to the Ministry, “these groups outside the law come from Colombian territory, where they move with absolute impunity” and with the consent “of the government and military forces of that country, in permanent conspiracy against Venezuela.”
“The statement released by the Ministry of Defense is an act of hypocrisy, full of euphemisms. When the face that must be given to terrorist subjects who are in Venezuelan territory is not given, ”emphasized the director of Fundaredes.
Contrary to what local media reported at first, the statement does not refer to the Bolivarian Army’s operation being aimed at capturing alias Ferley, the FARC’s dissident finance chief.
