Months ago, the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro recognized that it has long infiltrated the Colombian intelligence corps with the dispatch of Venezuelan spies. Most of them belong to the Special Action Forces (FAES) and the Bolivarian Intelligence Service (SEBIN).

The Colombian newspaper Time He revealed in an article published this Sunday the identities of some infiltrated Chavista agents and how that network operates.

As reported by the newspaper, In less than ten months, the Colombian immigration authorities have located and expelled from the country at least 20 members of the FAES and SEBIN. Official sources indicated that the objective of the infiltrators was attack opponents, spy or carry out destabilization actions.

The list of spies ranges from chief inspectors to detectives from the Venezuelan dictatorship. After several months of follow-ups, Colombian authorities detected 29 undercover agents.

Willian Alexánder Márquez Pérez (Deputy Chief Commissioner of Sebin San Cristóbal), Felipe José Bustamante Pérez, Armando Darío Guerra Ramírez, Eduardo Hernández Hernández and Gilbert René Vivas Colmenares (all with the same rank), are some of the names identified by the Colombian agencies.

In 2019, Colombian intelligence detected that several members of SEBIN, attached to the territorial base of San Cristóbal (Venezuela), began to cross the border quite frequently. At first they thought that they were sporadic cases. But over time they came to the conclusion that it was a modus operandi.

“Due to the nature of the positions they hold and the strategic location of the territorial intelligence base of San Cristóbal-Táchira state, to which they belong, it can be asserted that their work is aimed at infiltrating intelligence agencies, military and police authorities in Colombia in order to obtain privileged information from the National Government and the defense sector “, indicates the secret document to which he had access Time.

The Venezuelan spies processed and obtained the border mobility card (TMF) that enables Venezuelans residing in Colombia to move freely in the border area between the two countries.

The system, which managed to register more than a million and a half foreigners, came into force in May 2017. The government of Juan Manuel Santos suspended it after identifying more than 90,000 counterfeit cards. Then the system was resumed, but in February of this year, Migración Colombia announced a new suspension.

Faced with this situation, the Colombian authorities are advancing the possibility of prosecuting these cases instead of just expelling them from the country.

Sources close to Migración Colombia assured that the documents obtained by the 29 Venezuelan spies have already been suspended. With that documentation, Maduro’s agents sought to avoid immigration and police controls, and had the opportunity to move freely across the border.

El Tiempo reports that the same suspension procedure was carried out with more than 200 people close to Maduro’s circle.

“The Venezuelan spies have as a jurisdictional base Cúcuta and neighboring municipalities, from where they carry out espionage activities, illegal control of irregular passages (trails), monitoring opponents and military deserters of the regime and recruitment of collaborators”, says the report, which is already in the hands of President Iván Duque.

“These Venezuelan spies, moreover, would be responsible for inciting the civilian population at the border to carry out acts of subversion against the Public Force with the clear objective of generating destabilizing actions and discrediting the Colombian State and other institutions”he adds.

Last May, the Minister of Defense of Colombia, Carlos Holmes TrujilloHe warned that the country would intensify the mechanisms to detect possible leaks. “The leakage of information by any public or uniformed public servant of the public force who violates the reserve or does not comply with the custody of the information is a crime, therefore it must be punished and sanctioned,” said the official with the military leadership and the director of the National Police of Colombia

The statements of the Minister of Defense took place after the Minister of Communication of the Venezuelan dictatorship, Jorge Rodriguez, acknowledged that the intelligence bodies of Colombia have infiltrated.

The Chavista regime made that confession after accusing the government of Iván Duque of having been behind Operation Gideon against Maduro. As a result of this extensive spy network, Colombian authorities are investigating whether this Operation was a setup to splash Colombia.

The case of Gerardo Rojas Castillo

On June 12, Colombia expelled from the country a presumed Venezuelan military man who posed as a deserter from the Maduro regime to settle in the country and spy on the Army.

Gerardo Rojas Castillo was expelled to Venezuela “at the discretion of the immigration authority” based on an army report in which he is accused of carrying out “unauthorized activities which could put national security at risk.”, said Migración Colombia in a statement. The expulsion implies a prohibition to enter Colombia for ten years, added the immigration authority.

Rojas Castillo was captured on the road that connects the city of Valledupar, in the Cesar department, with the region of La Guajira, on the border with Venezuela, said General Gerardo Melo Barrera, commander of the First Division of the Colombian Army.

The man acknowledged being a member of the Venezuelan National Force and At the time of his arrest, documents were found proving him as an active second sergeant of the military institution.

Colombian military intelligence had been monitoring him for more than a year, according to the general.

The uniformed man entered Colombia in February 2019, within the framework of the failed entry of US aid to Venezuela, as one of the more than a thousand military and police deserters from the Maduro regime.
