Massive return of Venezuelans to Colombia after economic reactivation

In Cúcuta, the authorities are asking for support to formulate plans and combat unemployment and insecurity in the face of this eventual mass return, since the immigration entity believes that for every Venezuelan who returned to Venezuela, two would return to Colombia.

“From the point of view of COVID it is extremely serious because they enter without any control. Regarding unemployment and insecurity, having no information, not having control, the concern is total, ”said the mayor of Cúcuta, Jairo Yáñez.

The authorities have information of non-massive steps by Venezuelans seeking job opportunities due to the reactivation of some economic sectors in Colombia.

“Many of them go to the coffee harvests in the Eje Cafetero, Antioquia, Bogotá, towards the south of the country in Nariño and probably towards the south of the continent”, explains Víctor Bautista, Secretary of Borders of Norte de Santander.

There are also other Venezuelans who, not finding job opportunities, have been forced to beg.

According to immigration authorities, in the coming months the massive return of Venezuelans to Colombia would complicate situations such as unemployment, informality and insecurity in the metropolitan area of Cúcuta.
