‘Beto’ Rentería, formerly of the Norte del Valle cartel, was assassinated in Tuluá

The former cartel of the north of the Valley, Carlos Alberto Renteria, was assassinated this Wednesday night inside a residence located in the Sajonia neighborhood, in the municipality of Tuluá.

Preliminary versions suggest that at about 9:30 p.m. a person entered that residence, located on Calle 34 with Carrera24, and shot Renteria in the head and chest.

The victim, who was known as ‘Beto’, 74, had arrived in the country some years ago from the United States, where he served a sentence for drug trafficking crimes.

Lieutenant Colonel Amaury Aguilera, commander of the Second Police District, affirmed that the former died after receiving several impacts with a firearm.

“We can establish that this person died after receiving two bullet wounds in the head and one in the chest. We are verifying the security cameras of the sector to identify the aggressors,” he said.

It should be remembered Renteria was captured in July 2010 in Venezuela, after spending a decade eluding the action of the authorities.

Alias ​​’Beto’ trafficked since the 1980s and early 1990s, managing to build an empire in Medellín. In addition, he had strong disputes with the Rodríguez Orejuela brothers for control of drug trafficking in the north of the Valley.

On September 1, 2006, Colombian authorities seized around 34 properties in Cartagena, Bogotá, and Valle del Cauca.
