The Paloquemao judge requested the suspension of the hearing after hearing the arguments of the parties in the process that would define the freedom of former President Uribe.
The suspension is given, according to the judge, to analyze these arguments. In the new hearing, the judge must say if he considers that he is competent to decide on the state of freedom of the former senator. While the judge makes a decision, the former senator will remain deprived of his liberty.
In addition, it must decide whether the file remains at law 906 or if the process should be maintained at law 600, as requested by the victims.
For now, it was known that the date will be arranged in private.
Álvaro Uribe Vélez is linked to a process for procedural fraud and bribery in the alleged manipulation of witnesses, crimes for which he is being investigated.
After the resignation of the Antioquia politician from the Senate, the Supreme Court of Justice determined that he lost competence to take his case. Therefore, the process passed to the Prosecutor’s Office.
The prosecutor in turn indicated that the process will be carried out under the rules of the new accusatory criminal system. Thus, the freedom or continuity of the assurance measure against Uribe cannot be defined by the Prosecutor’s Office but it would be a guarantee control judge.
It is the first time that the former president appears before a guarantee control judge.
Uribe Vélez has been detained as a preventive home insurance measure since last August 4, at his El Ubérrimo farm in Córdoba.
