The admission was made by the Minister of Defense, Carlos Holmes Trujillo, in the plenary session of the Senate, in a session in which he also demanded that the possible crimes that have been committed against the institution in the citizen protests be known.
“Some policemen killed a Colombian citizen, dishonored the uniform, violated the norms of ethical behavior, ignored the entire training effort of the institution. Decisions are already being made in relation to them, ”said the official.
The Minister’s words caught the attention of the senators, who also heard the head of the Defense portfolio explain, one by one, the protocols to which the Police must comply and which have been questioned by different sectors.

“It has been asked many times, who gave the order? (to shoot), probably thinking that the orders are given from above for the police to go out to shoot and kill citizens indiscriminately. That is not the case, it does not work that way ”, explained the Minister.
He added that the Government “what it wants is to know the name of the police officers who are responsible for having violated the law.”
“If there are policemen who committed the crime of homicide, then they must be convicted of that crime (…), but you also have to know the names and crimes of those who have been the material perpetrators or instigators of a series of crimes that are contemplated in the Penal Code, because the point here is to know the truth ”, said.

His reference has to do with the fact that since last week, the Executive has maintained that although abuses could be committed by some police officers, there was also organized vandalism in those protests.

According to the official, “a very distinguished general said ‘nobody orders us’. He wanted to say that the action frames are defined and that at the given moment, in the face of the circumstance, it is the policeman who makes the decision to operate the supply weapon. If you did it right, you will have no problem, and if you made a mistake, you will answer to the authorities.
The commander (e.) Of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, General Carlos Rodríguez, affirmed that there are already “92 police officers who are fully identified and who possibly participated in activities that violate the regulations” in the protests last week.
According to General Rodríguez, the procedures for citizen demonstrations were applied, but “In this case there is no case of protest or surveillance, it was a vandalism, criminal act, which came premeditated directly to affect the police facilities.”
General Rodríguez also said that the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, “accompanied us at the command post. The Private Secretary was also there. The Secretary of Security in the C-4, and the Secretary of Government in the Unified Command Post (PMU) ”.
