This Thursday, the official was invited to speak about the provision of IPS and EPS services in different regions of the country and the money that has been turned over to them for the attention of the pandemic. In addition, he spoke about the government’s management in the territories.
There, he was questioned by the congressmen for the delay to use the well-known rapid tests that would allow to know more quickly the cases of contagion in Colombia, which on April 23 reached 4,561.
Regarding the tests, he highlighted the scarcity in the world of the 3 types of rapid tests that exist, but he was sincere in recognizing that they were cheated in the purchase:
“There is a lot of deception in the evidence available. Evidence has been presented that achieves good effectiveness; but in practice, when the kits for the specific test application have arrived, it turns out that they have been replaced by poor quality tests. There are also countries like Spain and the United Kingdom that could have received tests that did not have the specific sensitivity ”.
The minister did not specify the name of the seller whom he accuses of committing this fraud or the amount of evidence they received in poor condition. That purchase had already had a first problem, since they arrived in the country much later than planned.
Ruiz also said that a month ago the government received a proposal for the supply of antibody tests with an availability of three million to expand the national testing, and that they have already passed the Invima approval process and “they were also validated to see the quality conditions ”.
However, he said he wanted to clarify that two days ago a story came out that spoke of poor quality evidence “while the test that is referenced in the CNN news is different from the one that is being validated by the INS and other entities ”.
Meanwhile, regarding the laboratories to carry out tests throughout the country, the minister assured that the support of local governments is also needed, since he pointed out that an effort is required from the territories to equip their public health laboratories.
Meanwhile, from the National Institute of Health they assured that the delay, which was even two weeks, in the analysis of the samples they received, was already overcome.
