The Mayor’s Office of Santa Marta initiated the action plan with the Risk Management Unit and the Government to respond to the emergency that occurred on Sunday.
Apparently, due to the rains, the rocks gave way and at least ten landslides of different intensity fell on the San Martín neighborhood, in the north of the city.

According to the authorities, 12 houses were totally under the stones and 49 more partially affected. In addition, 154 people between minors and adults were evacuated.
“We had a result of 154 people affected, including 93 adults and 64 minors, and 61 homes were evacuated; the Mayor’s Office gave these people a rental subsidy so that they could be calm while the situation is solved, and as an immediate response they were given food and non-food aid ”, said Virna Johnson, mayor of Santa Marta.
An elderly woman was unable to leave her home during one of the landslides and died. Another person was injured.
