Spanish cyclist Mikel Landa (Bahrain-McLaren) enjoyed the second rest day of the Tour de France in Grenoble. The Basque cyclist, calm and already “somewhat tired from the whiplash of two weeks of racing”, considers that in the Alps it will be necessary to be regular and that the key days will be on Wednesday with the finish at Col de Loze and the Saturday chrono at La Planche des Belles Filles.

“I’m a little tired, there is stress from the two weeks into the race, but it is also true that every day I am better. I still see the possibility of reaching the podium, of course, but it will be difficult because there are several riders in one minute. Difficult but not impossible”.

The leader of the Bahrain-Mc Laren in the Tour de France, from seventh place in the general classification, 2 minutes and 16 seconds behind the leader and 41 seconds from the third step of the podium now occupied by Colombian Rigoberto Urn (Education First), commented on the keys to a “decisive” Alpine day.

“This week we will have to try to be regular, be very tough and they expect two key days with the end at Col de la Loza and the time trial on Saturday.”

Although the time trial is the Achilles heel of the Basque cyclist, Landa will face Saturday’s appointment “with confidence, since I have improved with specific training”, although he considers that the best thing “is to take time in the preceding mountain stages”.

Landa admitted the superiority shown by the Slovenians Primoz Roglic and Tadej Pogacar, as well as the leader’s team, the Jumbo-Visma.

“The Jumbo has a very strong block, but they are human and can also fail, as well as Roglic, who struggled in the 2019 Giro. Now he has more experience to manage his efforts and it is seen that he is being regular.”
