The three men who were captured in the shooting that occurred this Saturday, in which Mayor Darwin Fernández died, were sent to jail, officials from the same Institution assured.
The exchange of shots was recorded at about 2:30 pm on Calle 29 with Carrera 40A, in the La Independencia neighborhood, southeast of the capital of Valle.

According to preliminary information, it all began when the alleged criminals had committed a theft in the El Limonar neighborhood, the Police began the persecution until they were cornered in La Independencia.
General Manuel Antonio Vásquez, commander of the Cali Metropolitan Police, affirmed that the criminals were accused of committing several thefts in the area, between Independencia and Torres de Maracaibo, for that reason the patrols and police intelligence went to the area to verify.
“In the southeastern part of Cali, a police officer loses his life when he came in pursuit of two people who were mobilizing in a vehicle. They were captured in flagrante delicto,” General Vásquez said.
The criminals, who were on motorcycles and then were picked up by a private car to flee, violently robbed their victims, thus they have been recorded in security camera videos of the sectors where these criminals operate.
In one of the videos it is seen how a family was attacked that was in an establishment. The thief enters, walks past a child and assaults the man, throws him to the ground and fires a shot. It didn’t matter that there was a minor.
Authorities dictate detention in a prison for the three criminals captured in the event where Intendant Darwin Fernández lost his life. These are some of the thefts allegedly committed by the three implicated.

Of Sergeant Darwin Fernández Chávez, it is known that he was in the service of the Police for more than 22 years and had 29 congratulations on his file.
Fernández Chávez, 43, had no complaints, investigations or problems of indiscipline during his service. He also leaves two children, ages 5 and 22.
On Sunday night, members of the Police paid tribute to Mayor Fernández at the central command of the Metropolitan of Cali.
The Mayor of Cali, Jorge Iván Ospina, was present at the event and commented that “From the depths of the city I express my sincere condolences to his family. I believe that the best tribute we can pay him is to build a defense of the Institution. you have to take care of the Police to safeguard the security of the city. “
With this tribute, the Cali Police say goodbye to Mayor Darwin Fernández Chávez, who died after confronting criminals in an attempted robbery in the La Independencia neighborhood.
