Tottenham Stadium saw the attractive duel between Tottenham and Everton for the first date of the Premier League. James Rodríguez and Yerry Mina played with the Toffees, while Dávinson Sánchez was a substitute with the Spurs and did not enter.
In an intense first half, which ended without goals, the fundamental factor was the good handling of the ball by Everton. The team led by Carlo Ancelotti, put the ball at ground level and with James Rodríguez as the driver, dominated much of the match.
The Toffees had the opportunity to go into halftime ahead through Richarlison, who in the 17th minute missed a clear goal option. The Brazilian attacker took advantage of an error by the Spurs defense, and after eluding Hugo Lloris, sent the ball to the clouds.
Despite the Spurs’ reaction, however, Everton was better in the 90 minutes, and with outstanding performances from Jordan Pickford and Yerry Mina-Michael Keane at the back, he managed to get his arc to zero.
Dominc Calvert-Lewin was the author of the only goal of the game, in the 55th minute, the English striker scored the winning goal, after an accurate header that left goalkeeper Lloris without reaction.
Ancelotti opted to line up his three brand-new additions from the first minute and they paid off. James Rodríguez, Abdoulaye Doucouré and Allan took over the midfield and were fundamental in the recovery and creation of the game, for the victory of the Liverpool city team on the first date.
With 0-1 in their favor, the Toffees started the season in the best way and will look to repeat the great performance on the next day of the Premier, when they face West Bromwich Albion at Goodison Park.
It should be clarified that Everton’s next match will be against Salford City for the Capital One Cup, which is scheduled for next September 16.
