This Sunday, Bogotá will have the so-called ‘Act of Forgiveness and Reconciliation’ after several violent days that cost the lives of 13 people in Bogotá and Soacha.
They have been nights of chaos unleashed by the case of Javier Ordóñez, “murdered” as witnesses, relatives and Claudia López herself say, in events involving the Police.
The act will be divided into three parts:
10 am: Ecumenical celebration
3 pm: Youth Concert
6 pm: Candle and casserole
Everything will be broadcast on the social networks of the Bogotá Mayor’s Office and on Canal Capital.

“There will never be trust, no reconciliation without there being a genuine
purpose of reform, change and truth about what happened, is the least
that people who mourn 10 young people today need in our
city, “said Claudia López this Saturday, when she extended the invitation to Bogota citizens.
The event was attended by relatives of the victims, District Secretaries and other citizens. President Iván Duque did not attend.

11:15 The families of the victims speak
Bryan Baquero, brother of Angie Baquero (murdered): “We ask that justice be done, because there are many acts that have gone unpunished. We want this not to generate more violence,” he said, adding, “we hope we can bury our loved ones as they deserve.”
Flor Peralta, mother of Ferney Peralta (injured): “He is beginning life by living. We do not know how the arm will look. I ask the president and the mayor to know what happened, from the depths of the soul.”
Constanza Chaparro, family member of Brayan Rodríguez (injured): “I want to speak for all of us who are going through this great pain. Brayan is wounded, a bullet destroyed his femur. Speaking is difficult when the pain is great. Let’s put hatred aside.”
Mayra Páez, partner of Jaider Alexander Fonseca (assassinated): “I am the wife of Jaider Fonseca, the mother of the seven-month-old boy who the police left without a father. What they did was murder: it was not a stray bullet, it was four shots, they shot him. My pain is not only as a woman “She’s like a mother. The mayor should not be here alone, the president and the National Police should be here.”
11:08 am: Father Francisco de Roux speaks
“Thank you Mayor for having named each of the victims and for having visited the injured (…) This immense pain in our city that replicates what our country has experienced for more than 60 years of this conflict between brothers,” he said. Roux.
“If there is no reconciliation, there is no future for Bogotá or for the country,” warned the president of the Truth Commission.

10:48 am Ecumenical celebration begins:
Monsignor Jaime Alberto Mancera presides over a Mass for the families of the victims. “Make me an instrument of your peace” was the melody that started the act.
“That the history of the victims is not a story of failure, but of life, reconciliation and peace,” said Monsignor Mancera during a small intervention.

“Sorry because despite all the measures we could not avoid the tragedy. The solution is not to militarize Bogotá, but to demilitarize the Police, it must be a civil body. This reform is not going to give life back to any of us who cry today, but it is part of the reconciliation process. ”
10:40 am: New demand
Claudia López spoke of the need to forgive the young people killed in the midst of the riots.
“It is essential to recognize the truth of what happened. Honoring the memory of the victims and the pain of their families is something that requires presence,” said the mayor.
President Iván Duque did not attend the reconciliation ceremony, despite the invitation of the mayor. Nancy Patricia Gutiérrez, Human Rights Counselor, did attend.
10:20 am: Claudia López’s speech begins
“We have evidence of excessive use of force. And it is not the first time it has happened. Today we are here to acknowledge the facts, the pain of the families, the unjustified acts of violence in our city,” said the mayor of Bogotá.

9:40 am: Some citizens begin to arrive at the Plaza de Bolívar, where the ecumenical celebration will take place.
Saturday: Claudia López invited citizens, police and all sectors to the event. In addition, she extended the invitation to President Iván Duque, with whom she had differences when proposing the reform to the Police.
