Millonarios FC: analysis of the draw against Deportivo Cali Liga BetPlay date 6 – Colombian Soccer – Sports

Six months without competing means that any analysis of a football team has to start practically from scratch, so the payrolls are the same. And more in the conditions in which the teams have had to work, first, with the isolated players at home, and then, with individual training.

Nonetheless, Millionaires showed some progress in his first match after 189 days, which ended with a 1-1 draw with Deportivo Cali, in Palmaseca.

“I told them this is a new beginning,” said DT Alberto Gamero in the press conference after the match. These were the conclusions left by the first blue presentation:

To work on the definition. Millonarios could have won the match in Cali and had the options to do so. He failed at the time of finishing and it is a problem that he brought from the first semester. In eight dates, no Millos player has more than two goals (one of them, a brand midfielder, Juan Carlos Pereira).

It was improved on defense. Although Millonarios has only hit the goal twice all year (the game against Always Ready in the South American Cup and the classic with Santa Fe), he showed some defensive progress. Although Christian Vargas, a debutant in the game against Cali, was demanded, he did not suffer an avalanche back, as in other games. That also has to do with the approach of DT Gamero, with advanced lines and with a purposeful game.

Solid centrals. Although it is still premature to draw definitive conclusions, the couple of the two foreigners (Matías de los Santos and Juan Pablo Vargas) looked good and erased a very good forward like Ángelo Rodríguez.

The left side, a headache. Ómar Bertel had problems again when he was attacked and was not very supportive of the attack. The other option in that position is Felipe Banguero, who this time went to the bank. It is one of the positions in which Millionaires has suffered the most in recent times.

The position of Ayron del Valle. The forward is already the top scorer for Millonarios in short tournaments (he has 39 goals in 111 games). However, many times they have taken him out of the area and put him to play for a band, where he has had a good job. Where is it most effective? Diego Cocca, Miguel Russo and now Gamero have put him in both positions. What will be the best option now? He has the alternative of Ricardo Márquez, who showed good things before being sent off.
