Analysis of the role of Uribe and Petro in crisis due to violence and riots – Political Parties – Politics

While former President Álvaro Uribe Vélez, imprisoned in his home, asks the Government to militarize the country, Gustavo Petro, leader of the opposition, denounces a “coup d’état”.
Both have generated applause among their followers, rejection by their opponents and a feeling of overwhelm in the central political currents that ask to distance themselves from their radical positions.

This is, in essence, the synthesis of the political environment that the country lives after the brutal murder by at least seven members of the Police of the 43-year-old lawyer Javier Ordóñez.

Both have managed to be a trend in social networks where they are singled out for their debatable claims.

Uribe used his Twitter account to tell the Government to decree a curfew: “Better curfew of the Nal Govt, Armed Forces in the street, with their vehicles and tanks, deportation of foreign vandals and capture of intellectual authors,” he said. Uribe in his message.

“Better than deaths, injured police officers, than destruction of CAI, risks to TransMilenio and the Medellín Tram,” he argued.

Users emphasize two points. One, can Uribe, with the imposition of an assurance measure of preventive detention, as the alleged determiner of the crimes of bribery of witnesses in criminal proceedings and procedural fraud, throw a line on what the Government should do?

Petro, for example, pointed it out: “From jail a accused runs the country and leads it to violence?”

And two. Is Uribe aware of the impact that his message has on the governance of the President precisely because he is about his mentor and the man who encouraged him to take him to the Casa de Nariño?

A disservice is done to the head of state when, in such a dramatic crisis, criticism has returned in the sense of the difficulties he has in making decisions if he does not have Uribe’s wink.

“The last 48 hours have exposed – again – the leadership vacuum that we face as a country. 18 hours of silence from the President to have a few minutes of obviousness. President, connect with the pain and discomfort of the citizens, show a path of hope ”, wrote, for example, Sergio Fajardo.

On the other shore is Petro, who has been one of the most active political leaders on social media.

His activity began moments after the country saw the distressing video in which the police applied the shocks to the victim.

“People have gone out to the neighborhoods to surround the CAIs to protest against violence and police murder. It was thought that the pandemic would put the people to sleep, today the popular movement has restarted, ”the presidential hopeful wrote in 2022.

In another message he posted on his Twitter, he wrote: “TransMilenio bus fire in Bosa” and was accompanied by a photograph of the vehicle burning.

There was a reaction on two lines. One, that of those who point out to incite violence. “Just look at the messages from @petrogustavo right now; feeling himself a participant and king in violence, to understand why so many fear him. Its watchword is destruction, it rejoices in violence and incites hatred ”.

And two, that of those who consider that he was limited to reporting online about what was happening, an argument that he himself exhibited.

However, he escalated in his accusations to affirm, without proof, that President Duque had carried out a “coup” against Claudia López.

“Duque has carried out a coup against the mayor using the Police,” he declared.
Why? Her explanation is that Duque “thus charges the media criticism of the mayor with a balance of more than ten dead.”

And he predicted: “They want a lethal body against the protest that remains in impunity, because they know that the people will take to the streets.”

The responses, with numerous comments, in cyberspace against Petro are categorical: “arsonist”, “arsonist” and “keyboard vandal”.

Between these two shores, the Colombian chambers of commerce called for the legitimate right to protest not to be distorted in acts of vandalism and violence, which divide and affect society as a whole.

“It is essential to generate and respect the consensus that leads our country to jointly overcome the current difficulties, for which it is necessary to categorically reject radicalism that seek to sow chaos and disrespect the democratically constituted institutions, which will allow progress in protecting the rights of all Colombians, which is the objective towards which the country should be directed ”.

For its part, the Conservative Party also condemned the criminal actions committed by some members of the National Police, but also rejected the vandalism that civilians have carried out in several cities.

“Society cannot remain undaunted by these outbreaks of violence, most likely caused by instigators who may have coordinated them in different parts of Bogotá and other cities in the country and which affect the tranquility of citizens in a sensible way. For this reason, it must surround and support the National Government without hesitation and reaffirm its legitimacy ”, said this community.

Voices, however, that fail to overshadow the strong echo of Uribe and Petro’s statements and that were the subject of discussion on the radio programs this morning.

“The morning radio obsessed with Petro and Uribe. Those disconnected from the reality of this country are clearly not only politicians, ”wrote analyst and teacher Sandra Borda.
