The Tour de France surpasses the equator of competition with a demanding twelfth stage, not so much for the possible movements between the men of the general, but because of the distance, the route and the great options for a successful getaway. This Wednesday’s day consists of 218 kilometers, the longest of this edition, between the towns of Chauvigny and Sarran. The race is already in the Massif Central and they will no longer see the sea in the remaining days of competition.
The day has four ascents: two fourth category, one third and one second. The last one will be the most demanding, just 30 kilometers from the finish line. In the race there are 15 Spanish runners left after the abandonment of Rafa Valls and the Basque Ion Izagirre due to falls. Being an ideal day for a getaway, some of the nationals move well in those situations. It should be remembered that the last Spanish victory in the Tour was for Omar Fraile in the 14th stage of the 2018 Tour with a finish in Mende. A drought that has now exceeded two years.
