Contrary to what was stated by the former mayor of Medellín, Federico Gutiérrez, in La W and in contrast to what was indicated by the former members of the EPM board of directors in a letter published on September 8, the minutes of the board of directors that were held on June 25, 2019 makes it clear that the members of the highest corporate governance body of Empresas Públicas de Medellín they were aware and expectant of the report prepared by the reinsurers on the causes of the loss in the construction of Hidroituango.
The document, which summarizes the discussions and topics discussed at this meeting that took place at EPM’s facilities, reads as follows:
“Currently EPM has advanced all the procedures and is only waiting for the report to be made by the reinsurers” and they point out that this report is key to defining the future of all-risk insurance coverage for the Hidroituango project.
The same document clearly reads that “EPM’s internal work team for claiming the claim from reinsurers meets periodically and has the support of a national law firm, as well as a law firm in London” .
We recommend:
It should be noted that at this meeting of the board of directors were present: Andrés Bernal, Claudia Jiménez, Javier Genaro Gutiérrez, Manuel Santiago Mejía, Carlos Raúl Yepes, among others, as well as the then EPM manager Jorge Londoño.
The section on the insurance claim of the HidroItuango project where the expectation is clearly discussed in the reinsurer’s report closes with the following line: “The Board of Directors defines that the progress of the subject be taken to the audit committee every month”.
