This Tuesday, Rodrigo Londoño Echeverry, ‘Timochenko’, became the ninth ex-guerrilla chief to render a version to the JEP for the recruitment and use of minors in the Farc.

The meeting, which takes place before the Truth Recognition Room, began after 9 am and this is the first time that the maximum commander of the extinct FARC appears before the transitional justice to render accounts for the recruitment of minors.

During the procedure, Londoño must talk about the existence, origin and evolution of the policy that guided or allowed the involvement of minors in the Farc, and must answer the questions asked by the accredited victims in this case, which is 007, investigated by the JEP.

For now, the transitional justice has linked 37 former guerrillas to the process, but initially called who participated in the spaces where the recruitment policy was outlined, how were they the VI, VII, VIII and IX National Guerrilla Conferences and the plenary sessions of the Central General Staff of 1997 and 2000.

Londoño himself spoke about his appearance, and assured: “I want to inform Colombia that I will not hesitate to narrate with total transparency the events for which I was summoned to the JEP today. My commitment is to work for peace with social justice and this only it is possible hand in hand with truth and reconciliation “.

‘Timochenko’ was not only the last top leader of the FARC until the signing of the peace agreement in 2016, but he was also part of the Central General Staff since 1982, which defined the policy on the recruitment of children and adolescents.

In addition, according to reports from state entities, Londoño was a member of the National Personnel Commission, the body in charge of recruitment since 1999.

From that moment the FARC decided to expand and defined that the blocks should increase the recruitment and contribute 20 percent of the staff to create a mobile column.

In addition to Londoño, other former guerrilla leaders such as Pablo Catatumbo, Pastor Alape, Julián Gallo, ‘Carlos Antonio Lozada’, among others, have already rendered a version to the JEP in this case.

Through reports received from different entities, the JEP started from a hypothesis that in order to grow as an organization, the Farc defined a policy for the recruitment of minors. But, in addition, the minors in the ranks suffered cruel treatment and sexual violence.

“Life in the ranks also implied that the minors recruited suffered cruel, inhuman and degrading punishments, torture, shooting and disappearance of persons, as well as acts of sexual violence such as forced contraception, forced abortion and violent carnal access”Said the JEP in the order last October with which it linked 37 former guerrilla leaders to the case.
