After the media opening of the Tunnel of the Line that the Government carried out last Friday, the National Highways Institute (Invias) warned that there are five special circumstances that could lead to the temporary closure of the work.
In principle, if there is traffic congestion between the Tolima portal and Cajamarca, since no row of vehicles will be able to appear inside the tunnel, this partial closure would be made while the traffic improves.
In addition, if there are tests with real traffic that could modify the behavior of the fans or lighting in short moments; or there are accidents stranded vehicles inside the tunnel; special maneuvers that require to be carried out without vehicular traffic; and maintenance activities on some special part of the Tunnel of the Line.
“If any of these eventualities occur, which are foreseen for very short periods, it is strictly necessary to carry out the controlled closure of the tunnel operation, which will be carried out from the tunnel toll in the Quindío sector ”, Stated the director of the entity, Juan Esteban Gil.
Meanwhile, Invias explained that, during its first weekend of operation, 20,584 vehicles crossed the La Línea Tunnel, which represented an increase of 33% compared to recent months.
Invias added that it will continue to carry out controlled tests that experts and technicians will monitor from the operations control center to verify the behavior of automation, lighting, traffic signs and fans, among other construction components.
