On September 5, the pediatrician Dalila Peñaranda Fairuth and the domestic worker, Carmen Pérez, were beaten by several men in the La Ría building in the Villa Santos neighborhood, north of Barranquilla, after the doctor asked one of her neighbors to they will lower the volume of the music.
“The District, together with the police authorities and the ‘Covid Patrols’, accompanied the victim to file the complaint to find those responsible and requests the authorities and security agencies to carry out the respective investigations and find the whereabouts of the aggressors, ”said the statement issued on the night of Sunday, September 6 by the city’s mayor’s office.
Before this situation occurred, several tenants had filed complaints about noise and scandal by the neighbor who occupies the apartment, where the “covid-party” was recorded in which the pediatrician Dalila Peñaranda and her domestic employee of 57 years.
The plaintiffs, in the first instance, went to the Office of Public Space and Urban Control on August 18, but as this was about horizontal property, the case was referred to the General Inspection of the Police. Once the case was admitted on August 19, it was assigned to the Ninth Inspection on the 25th of the same month, as stated by the District Inspector General, Wiliam Estrada.
“Faced with the scandals, the neighbors went to the Office of Urban Control and Public Space on August 25, but there, considering that the problem was not one of competition since it was an affectation of coexistence in a condominium of horizontal property, and for that reason, they referred him to the General Police Inspection ”, specified the Inspector General.
“There was no negligence in the case”
Inspector Estrada, in dialogue with LA LIBERTAD explained that given the number of complaints that were presented to the control entity during the pandemic, where only in the month of August some 2,913 complaints were filed, added to the fact that they must attend to the cases of the ‘Covid Patrol’, the request of the tenants of the La Ría building was filed and highlighted that there were no threats in any part of the complaint, but for the above reasons, the complaint handling process is slower, ensuring that they were made the corresponding actions to attend the case.
Estrada indicated in the face of the acts of aggression of which the pediatrician was a victim, unfortunately they were presented, but that at no time was there any negligence on the part of the Inspection, but, on the contrary, the due process of filing was carried out, where, in addition, Dr. Dalila Peñaranda has an appointment scheduled for Thursday, September 11 to be able to follow up on the complaint.
What happened with the pediatrician, according to the Inspector General, has served to implement strategies with the community and prevent these types of anomalies from occurring in the city of Barranquilla.
It is worth mentioning that Mayor Jaime Pumarejo has requested the prosecution of the aggressors: “We are working so that the full weight of the law falls on them. First, the subpoenas for disregarding the isolation rules in Barranquilla against all those who attended the party, also the horizontal property administrator who allowed that party to take place and, finally, we are going to work so that the people who they attacked those two women who only asked not to continue with an improper party, “the president explained at the time.
In this same sense, the commander of the Metropolitan Police of Barranquilla, General Ricardo Alarcón, said that at least 12 people have been identified and that actions will be taken for the sale and consumption of narcotics in common areas of the building and the property guard company.
“We are reviewing each and every one of the attendees. At the moment we have identified 4 people who participated directly in the attack and another 8 who attended this party. We also analyzed some videos in which it is presumed that there is a sale and consumption of hallucinogens in the common areas of the building and that they were not denounced at the time, “said the general.
