This Saturday, while the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, presented the progress of the new bike path of Carrera Séptima and other sustainable mobility measures, she received an attack of discrimination against her sexual orientation by a man who interrupted the event.

The citizen’s words caused voices of rejection among the attendees, who asked that he be expelled from the place.

“In the name of Jesus Christ I reprimand you, you are teaching disrespectful things, if you want to become homosexual do it yourself, but do not teach our children,” the man shouted to the mayor.

Before the reprehensible act, several people showed their support for López, who on the afternoon of September 5 spoke on the subject.

“I am grateful from the bottom of my heart for so many expressions of solidarity and affection. Equality and respect exalt us all“, the district president wrote on her Twitter account, and said that, after the event, she went out to tour the El Verjón village, located between the towns of Santafé and Chapinero.

Shortly before, López had made another publication, in which she stated: “I feel deeply proud to be a woman, diverse, the daughter of a teacher and the first mayor elected by popular vote in Bogotá. I love my Bogotá, here I was born, grew up and I was trained as the woman and professional that I am. Thank you Bogotá for being the city where you can be and do!“.
