The Metropolitan Police of Cartagena and the Attorney General’s Office revealed this Friday that they captured eight people accused of stealing 1,478 million pesos from a bank in the Ternera industrial zone.
General Henry Sanabria declared that within the framework of the operation called “Exodus 22” they managed to catch alleged thieves from financial entities and commercial premises in Cartagena and the municipality of Turbaco.
These eight people were captured for the crimes of qualified and aggravated theft, illegal possession of firearms, conspiracy to commit a crime and simulation of investiture or charge, they would be linked to the theft carried out on June 20, 2019, in which officials of the surveillance company, securities transporter and the financial institution.
“Without firing a single shot, or intimidating with firearms, they seized 1,478 million pesos, the largest bank robbery registered in the capital of Bolívar,” the officer revealed.
The ingenious perpetrators of the crime used a vehicle with identical logos of the security company and some alleged officials claimed all the money collected, 1,478 million pesos.
Days before committing the crime, the thieves stole a truck which they changed the license plate and put logos of the transporter of values on it and after the robbery they left it abandoned on a trail.
The arrests occurred in five searches and raids deployed in Los Ternera, San José de los Campanos and in the municipality of Arjona.
A 38 caliber revolver was seized from thieves, in addition to 16 38mm caliber cartridges, two pistols, two suppliers, 20 9mm cartridges, six cell phones, a white FX 250 motorcycle, two communications radios and an armored vest.
