In the last hours Jorge Messi, father of Leo Messi, has met with Josep Maria Bartomeu to negotiate the departure of the Argentine star. A meeting from which the progenitor of the ‘flea’ came out knowing that his exit will be difficult. During the afternoon of this Thursday, father and son met to study the options for the future. On the table, they have five possible alternatives:
- Finding a club willing to make an exorbitant offer for Leo Messi and present it to Josep Maria Bartomeu and his board of directors. Something that seems complicated because Manchester City, which seemed the most interested team, could not assume the payment of the Argentine’s token plus high transfer costs. In this case, the ‘cityzens’ should offer a juicy barter and, even so, it would be difficult for FC Barcelona to accept.
- Continue at war with FC Barcelona to force his exit. If the previous alternative was a peaceful way of trying to convince the club that Leo Messi’s cycle at the Camp Nou is over, this bet would be risky and cause a war. It would be trying to convince the culé club the hard way of a transfer, although it would be unwise to try after two decades of marriage between the club and the player.
- Staying at FC Barcelona and leaving once the next season ends, in June 2021. It would be the alternative that best suits the wishes of Leo Messi, who seems to be clear that his Barça cycle is over but he knows that he has a contract in force and that practically no team would have a transfer of such high economic pretensions within his reach.
- Staying at FC Barcelona and waiting until next March to make a decision. It must be remembered that, in the third month of 2021, there will be elections for the club’s presidency and that the Josep Maria Bartomeu board, with which there is tension, will no longer be a problem. In this case, the candidates will be able to ask Leo Messi to stay at the Camp Nou under the promise of a new winning project.
- Staying at FC Barcelona and accepting the millionaire renewal proposal that Josep Maria Bartomeu will make. Due to the current circumstances, it seems the least likely option, since Leo Messi has already made it clear that he wants to leave. In addition, choosing this option could be interpreted the uproar that has raised these last weeks as a maneuver to charge more and overthrow the current leadership. It would also be the least sensible alternative.
