National strike: Unions and citizens on social networks call protest in Colombia – Politics

Six months ago, when the pandemic caused by the coronavirus arrived in Colombia, the country was experiencing a series of marches called by various sectors and organized by what was then the National Unemployment Committee. After the arrival of covid-19, the country entered mandatory preventive isolation, which prevented the schedule of demonstrations from taking place.

However, as of September 1, the country entered the phase of selective isolation, in which there are specific restrictions and individual responsibility prevails. And with this, the proposal to call a national strike again sounded.

The idea, which was already rolling days ago, has gained strength this Wednesday and has been promoted from social networks, where they have used the hashtag #ParoNacionalYa.

Some users have pointed out to President Iván Duque of failing to comply with the requests of the national strike last year, others mention events that have occurred in recent days, such as the government loan to Avianca.

Opposition politicians such as Gustavo Bolívar and María José Pizarro have also joined this trend.

Bolívar, for his part, pointed out, in three trills, more than 30 reasons to join this initiative. Some of those he mentioned are: “Decree 1174, gift to Avianca, 20% unemployment, negative basic income, fracking, glyphosate, bombing of children, 46 massacres in 2020, 135 leaders, ‘Ñeñepolítica’, ‘Merlanopolítica’, destroys peace, jabs, disappeared, profile of tweeters “.

This voice was joined by the representative to the Chamber of the List of Decency, who trilled: “I wanted to remind you that with the money they gave Avianca it would have been possible to pay the #MatriculaZero of all the public universities in the country for a year.
#ParoNacionalYa “

The FARC party also agreed with this request: “The social leaders are people like you, who are dissatisfied with what is happening and organize to defend life and the earth. We support the call to #ParoNacionalYa in a single I cry for life and peace with social justice, “the party wrote.

In this same sense, the MAIS Movement joined the proposal. “They condemn SMEs to bankruptcy and save Avianca, massacres daily, approve ‘mico’ for the fracking, they end by decree with labor rights, “he trilled.

The congressman of that party, Feliciano Valencia, warned that his reasons for a strike are: the breach of the agreements, glyphosate, the Avianca loan, the opening to fracking and decree 1174.

Another sector that supports the initiative is the SENA union and the General Labor Confederation (CGT).

In another sphere are users who point out that it is not the time to call for demonstrations because the pandemic is still present and this can cause a re-outbreak in the short term.

“We had a five-month strike. Definitely on the left does not like people to work, they cannot bear to see people move forward,” wrote one netizen.

Another person wrote: “#ParoNacionalYa what good is another national strike
@petrogustavo, increase the number of infected, the solution is to be aware when voting, “trilled another user.

Decree 1168, by means of which selective isolation was stipulated, warns that crowds are prohibited. According to the Ministry of Health, an agglomeration of people is understood “Any gathering of people in closed and open spaces in which the physical distance of at least two meters between person and person cannot be kept. Likewise, in closed spaces that involve more than 50 people in the same place. It is also considered that there is agglomeration when the architectural layout of the space and the distribution of furniture and furnishings makes it difficult or prevents such distance “.

To this trend was added an artistic act that was known this Wednesday. This is the artist Jhon Fitzgerald, who began on Sunday August 30 an artistic representation in strike mode, which he called “A poetic-artistic act in favor of art, culture, peace and life”, in which the mouth was sewn up to avoid ingesting solids or liquids.

Fitzgerald points out that the demonstration is being held “against the recent massacres in Colombia to give them a voice through the strike and silence.”

The artist was next to a sculpture in homage to Dilan Cruz, and warns that his act “dignifies the presence of the beings who left in acts of demonstrations.”

The artist is located on Calle 19 with Carrera 4.ª and there he spends the nights.
