Not even the pleas of the relatives managed to persuade workers of the Electricaribe company not to cut the power service in a house in Santa Marta, where a 93-year-old man lived whose life depended on an oxygen condenser connected to the stream.

The entity’s officials refused to listen to the justification provided by the users And, despite the fact that it was a special case, they upheld their decision to enforce a suspension order that originated from non-payment of billing.

After the power cut, the oxygen condenser stopped working and, as the wife and daughter noticed, José Miguel Dau David could not breathe with his own physical capacity and just a few hours later he died.

The story was released by the Dau family in the midst of their pain and anger at the cruel position, which according to their concept was assumed by the representatives of the energy company and which brought fatal consequences.

Luz Marina Crespo, Dau’s widow, assures that there was a lack of humanism and consideration and adds that “seeing José die slowly filled me with great impotence.”

In a video that they published on social networks as a complaint, it is seen how mother and daughter they explain to the Electricaribe official that they had not paid the bill because a claim was currently in progress that they did because of the high and unjustified costs that the energy bill received during the months of March, April and May.

“Desperately, I told him: boy, I have a lawsuit with Electricaribe, leave me and look for the filing number; I went in to look for him and when I returned he was already on the pole cutting the light,” says Luz Marina.

The woman details that the only thing she lacked was kneeling, because “even the tears came out while I explained to her that if I took the light off my husband would die.”

And it was not an exaggeration of Luz Marina, inside the house, José Miguel Dau David, aware of what was happening, suffered a nervous breakdown and stress that required the quick intervention of his daughter, who initially managed to calm him down.

But the following hours would be fatal for the older adult, who suffered several episodes of suffocation due to the absence of the device and required to be taken from the emergency room to the clinic.

We took it out in a wheelchair to the terrace and with a cardboard we added fresh. Still nothing could keep him alive

His daughter, Caro Dau, recounted the dramatic moments that happened with her father in an attempt to keep him alive while the electrical issue was resolved.

“We took him out in a wheelchair to the terrace and with a cardboard we put fresh it. Still nothing could keep him alive,” said Caro Dau.

The suspension of the power occurred around 10 in the morning; At 5 o’clock in the afternoon, José Dau was transferred in an ambulance to the clinic and At 9 pm the doctors delivered the tragic news.

The Electricaribe version

That same day, the company in the afternoon wanted to remedy the error, but it was too late.

Electricaribe, about what happened, only published a brief statement showing solidarity with the affected family.

“Electricaribe regrets the death of Mr. José Miguel Dau David in the city of Santa Marta and presents its condolences to his entire family. The company refrains from any comment regarding the death of Mr. Dau“, says the letter.

I depend on this device, if they take away the light I die

A few blocks from the Dau house, Carlos Infante, 64 years old and a friend of José Miguel, also suffers from a respiratory deficiency and does not have energy service at home.

Infante says that a year ago his electricity was cut off due to lack of money to pay for the service; Fortunately a neighbor supplies him with current through a wire so that he can connect the respirator that keeps him alive.

“I depend on this device, if they take away the light I will die,” said Carlos, who if it had not been for the help he receives from the house next door, perhaps would have had the same outcome as the one who for many years was his companion from gatherings and anecdotes.
