This Tuesday the businessman Álvaro H. Caicedo, son of Hernando Caicedo, founder of the Riopaila and Central Castilla Agroindustrial Group, as well as the Colombina Valle del Cauca candy factory, passed away in the capital of Valle del Cauca.

Álvaro H. Caicedo was one of the four sons who assumed the management of the companies that his father led for years in the region. He stood out as Senator of the Republic and as president of Riopaila – Castilla SA, the modern sugar mill that today has the largest production capacity in the region.

He is remembered as a visionary man who for years contributed to the agro-industrial development of Valle de Cauca and who in November 1961 opted to found, together with the journalist Luis E. Palacios, “an alternative newspaper, open to political trends, to economic development , to support democracy and the Law ”; the Diario Occidente.

“Álvaro H. Caicedo left a great business legacy. Diario Occidente was his visionary commitment to building democracy and contributing to the region.
