The Board of Directors of EPM reported that, after hearing the report from the management and the different financial, technical, risk and legal agencies related to the Ituango Hydroelectric Project, supported the ongoing conciliation procedure, pending reaching agreements for EPM and the community in general.
The Board revealed that the agencies also served as the basis for the formulation of the requests for extrajudicial conciliation presented by EPM, with the purpose of resolving by mutual agreement the controversies derived from the contingency that occurred in the aforementioned project.
Which means that, in ordinary session of August 31, 2020, the Board of Directors of EPM agreed support the advancement of legal actions to recover $ 9.9 billion of public resources in Hidroituango, as stated by the mayor of Medellín, Daniel Quintero, on his Twitter account.
It should be remembered that Mayor Quintero Calle had asked the manager of Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM), Álvaro Guillermo Rendón López, take over the decision to continue or not the legal actions to recover $ 9.9 billion, corresponding to the cost overruns of the Hidroituango project, to the new EPM board of directors.

The president indicated that the decision took into account conversations and meetings he held with company employees, some businessmen and other stakeholders interested in EPM’s operations.
At the time, Oswaldo León Gómez Castaño, a former member of the Board of Directors, responded to Quintero, Also through the social network: “Mayor, we could have discussed this at the EPM Board meeting on July 28, where an additional $ 900,000 million (total $ 16.2 billion) was approved for the Hidroituango Project. How much damage we would have avoided ”.
It should be remembered that on August 11, after an extraordinary meeting of the Board of Directors of Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM), Rate Analytics confirmed the massive resignation of its members after the tension unleashed by the announcement of the recent lawsuit against builders, auditors and insurers of the Hidroituango project, without being consulted.
In a letter addressed to the mayor of Medellín and president of the EPM Board of Directors, Daniel Quintero, the former members of the EPM, made up of Luis Fernando Álvarez, Jesús Aristizábal, Andrés Bernal, Oswaldo León Gómez, Javier Genaro Gutiérrez, Gabriel Ricardo Maya, Manuel Santiago Mejía and Elena Rico They expressed their disagreement with recent decisions such as the intention to expand the corporate purpose and legal decisions against contractors and insurance companies of the Hidroituango project, in which they were not consulted.

For this reason, the eight members explained that “since they do not agree with the current management that is being given to issues so fundamental to the present and future of Grupo EPM and the repeated ignorance of the Board of Directors, we are forced to present our resignation as members of this”.
Following these decisions, the mayor of Medellín completed, on August 25, 2020, the eight members that make up the new Board of Directors of Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM) after the respective resignations that occurred due to the lawsuit against Hidroituango and several changes in the new appointments over two weeks. Of those initial names, the declines presented by Alberto Preciado, Luis Fernando Mejía, Luis Fernando Rico and Sandra Suárez stand out.

This was made up of Daniel Quintero as president and eight more elected to accompany him from now on in the highest board of directors: Ómar Flórez; Jorge Iván Palacio; Pablo Felipe Robledo; Bernardita Pérez; Jorge Andrés Carrillo; Guillermo León Goddess; Olmer Orlando Palacio and Gildardo Antonio Correa.
