Four soldiers were killed in an attack perpetrated in the municipality of Sardinata, in the department of North of Santander, where they did work to eradicate coca crops.
According to the National Army, the attack occurred in the rural area of The prairie, that region that is part of the border area with Venezuela.
Official information indicates that the deceased are three soldiers and a noncommissioned officer who were attacked by members of illegal armed groups operating in the region of Catatumbo, inside which is Sardinata.

Sardinata is the fifth municipality in the country in coca cultivated area, with 5,487 hectares, a classification led by neighboring Tibú, with about 20,000 planted hectares.
The Catatumbo region has 39,636 hectares dedicated to coca, equivalent to 20% of the national total, according to the 2019 report of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
According to the United Nations, the departments of North of Santander and Nariño “They group more than 50% of all the coca in the country” and if they are added Putumayo and Cauca, the four concentrate 78% of these crops.
