For the seventh month of the year, the employed population stood at 17.9 million Colombians, compared to 22.14 million people in July of last year.

Of the 4.15 million most unemployed Colombians, 2.49 million correspond to workers in companies with up to 10 employees, in the sectors of commerce, vehicles and artistic activities.

The entire contraction of the employed population is concentrated in 44% in women who worked in economic units with fewer than 10 employees, that is to say, in this scenario the employment gaps for women have increased.

The unemployed population went from 2.65 million people in July 2019 to 4.55 million in July this year, which translated into 1.9 million more unemployed people.

As for the inactive population, the entity explained that 2.7 million more Colombians were in this situation and it totaled 14.57 million people.

The director of Dane, Juan Daniel Oviedo, explained that this trend was due to the greater impact on labor matters in the more than 1,000 municipalities in the country and municipal capitals, areas that presented the greatest problems.

“Month by month, the contractions of the employed population have been adjusting in response to the sequential reopening measures of various sectors of the economy. The unemployed population we see increase of 1.9 million people is less than the increase of 2.2 million unemployed people in June, “he said.
