A deafening noise that seems to come from the sky and that sounds sporadically at night or at dawn, has intrigued the inhabitants of Itagüí, especially those who reside in communes 1, 4, and 5. Environmental authorities of the municipality and the Valley de Aburrá set out to find the source and managed to discover what it is.

According to Sebastián Zuleta, Itagüí’s Secretary of the Environment, this sound is produced by the boilers of a company located in the Sedeco sector, from which he reserved the name, which release water vapor, however, he explained, this occurs only when there is a power failure in said plant.

“When there is a drop in the power supply of this company, safety valves are activated that release a compressed air of water vapor, which causes that great noise is emitted by these boilers”, he said.

Ana María Roldán, environmental deputy director of the Metropolitan Area, indicated that the entity carried out a control and surveillance visit to the industry in question, in which it was requested that new plans and strategies be established to prevent the occurrence of the sound, which on August 24 reached 100 decibels.
