Alias ​​El Profe, one of those prosecuted for the murder of social leader Temístocles Machado in 2018, was sentenced this Saturday by the Second Criminal Court of the Buenaventura Circuit to 23 years in prison, the Prosecutor’s Office reported.

The investigating body pointed out Juan José Mosquera Gómez of the crimes of
aggravated homicide in competition with the manufacture, trafficking and possession of aggravated personal defense weapons.

The convicted person admitted his participation in the events, registered on January 27, 2018 in Buenaventura, and promised to apologize and express his regret for the crime of the human rights defender.

Due to this fact and in an articulated work of the corresponding authorities, seven people have been captured: four perpetrators and three determiners.

To date, there have been three convictions: two against determiners and one against one of the material authors.

The crime

Temistoclés Machado, a well-known community leader from the Isla de la Paz neighborhood, on the Buenaventura internal alternate road, was assassinated by hitmen who shot him when he was in a business of his property.

He was transferred to the Santa Sofía clinic and there he died due to the severity of his injuries.

For years he defended the right to the territory and fought for the conservation of the lands located on the internal alternative route. He was also a member of the group of organizations that make up the Civic Unemployment Committee.
