Friday’s was the third pain in 16 days. First, the news of the murder of their children; second, the reports that in social networks claimed that they were part of criminal structures, and, third, knowing that they were killed without any cause.
The news given that day by the Attorney General of the Nation, Francisco Barbosa, in the presence of the President of the Republic and the Director of the Police, still cannot be located in the sentiment of the families of the five young people murdered in Llano Verde on 11 of August.
“At this moment I don’t know if the capture of these people gives me peace of mind or if it gives me joy. The situation is still unfinished and we are waiting for concrete results because I think there is much that remains to be known, ”said the mother of one of the children who died.

The prosecutor Barbosa explained at a press conference from the Marco Fidel Suárez Military Base that “the victims often came to eat sugarcane. According to the investigative work, the three adults observed the five minors and without a word murdered them ”.
“It was a filigree operation,” said the head of the Prosecutor’s Office, which resulted in the capture of two of those allegedly responsible for the massacre in the Llano Verde gorge.
The uncle of another of the minors believes that “it is better to wait to see what happens with these fast captures that they did and hopefully they will not say later that they were the wrong people. For now we cannot celebrate anything ”.
“An impeccable job”
This is how President Iván Duque described the investigative work that allowed the arrest in the early hours of Friday of Jefferson Angulo and Juan Carlos Loaiza as allegedly responsible for the murder of the five minors.
Authorities are trying to clarify why four of the young men killed in Llano Verde had gunshot wounds and one had stab wounds.
The investigative work, as El País learned, began from the moment the events became known, with the formation of a team of 54 investigators from the CTI of the Prosecutor’s Office and the Metropolitan Police of Cali.
With them, three inter-institutional subgroups were formed that reported their findings to two leading researchers, who analyzed each of the pieces found.
One of these groups was in charge of carrying out the surveillance and monitoring of the people who appeared as possible responsible for the massacre during the process of investigation and search for evidence.
The second group focused exclusively on collecting the testimonies of witnesses who knew of some situation not only on the day of the death of the minors, but also from previous events, to try to establish if the massacre was due to some confrontation in the past.
The third inter-institutional group of the Prosecutor’s Office and Police was dedicated to working with the technical information and technological means to carry out all the criminalistics work and collection of evidence, as well as the production of spoken portraits, among others.
It was also established that no group would know about the progress of the other teams or the findings. The complete information was only in the hands of the two lead investigators to feed the system, prepare the executive report and present all the arguments before the judge.
What happened
Among those who did part of the work carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office and the Police to give the first results soon, there were neighbors and relatives of the murdered minors.
The map that the Prosecutor’s Office structured allows determining that on the day of the homicides the youths went out to fly kites and eat some sugar cane, as they used to, but the murderers were already aware of their presence and cornered them.
The Prosecutor’s Office assures that it was Juan Carlos Loaiza, whose passion for weapons has openly exposed through his social networks, the person who intercepted the minors and called the other two men by radio to surround them.
Meanwhile, Jefferson Angle, a heavy machinery operator, appeared elsewhere, who would have taken the knives they were carrying to cut sugarcane from the young men and threw them towards the crops, as he himself recognized in the initial questioning in front of his lawyer , arguing that he did so under pressure from Mr. Gabriel Alejandro Bejarano, who remains a fugitive from justice.
According to what was said by those captured in the interrogation, Bejarano told them over the radio to keep them while he arrived. Then Bejarano, with his face covered, forced them to kneel and executed them without words or reasons, one by one, with a gunshot to the head. Just on the suspicion that they were going to rob.
It was also known that none of them work for the farm where the sugarcane is grown, but that they provide their service for the company Control Interno y Transportes SAS, which according to the business registry is dedicated to land transport of cargo, but also to security activities private.
As it was learned at the hearing, they were providing surveillance service to machinery, fuel and cement in a work carried out in the jarillón by the company Arquitectura, Ingeniería y Construcciones Aico Ltda., From Guacarí.
According to those captured, Bejarano visited them after the events, before their escape, and threatened them if they came to count or access the rewards they offered to expose what happened around noon on that August 11 at the cañadauzal.
The mysterious Gabriel Alejandro Bejarano vacated the residence where he lived in the Republic of Israel neighborhood hours after what happened, which is why his capture was not possible during the raids on Friday and for whom a $ 20 million reward is offered.
The lawyer Elmer Montaña, attorney for the family of one of the murdered minors, expressed concern that the Prosecutor’s Office based the entire investigation only on these testimonies.
“That could bring difficulties at the time of the trial. It is necessary to seek more evidence and provide the principle of opportunity to those who have less participation in the facts to be able to know the truth and obtain a conviction for those responsible, “said attorney Montaña.
Preventive prison
This Saturday, Judge 25 of Control of Guarantees of Cali, imposed a measure of assurance of preventive detention in a prison on Jefferson Angulo and Juan Carlos Loaiza, for the case of the massacre of five minors in Llano Verde.
