The Spanish cyclist Rafa Valls did not start the second stage of the Tour de France after having suffered a fracture of the hip in the first, informed his team, the Bahrain-McLaren.

The cyclist fell to the ground in a fall that took place just after passing the banner of the last 3 kilometers to the finish of Nice, the last of a day in which the incidents of the rain multiplied.

The Bahrain-McLaren team indicated that Valls suffers a fracture in his right femur, which was detected in the X-rays to which he was subjected in a hospital in Nice shortly after crossing the finish line.

The runner underwent surgery for that fracture and other minor injuries to his shoulder, elbow and knee also healed, added the Bahrain-McLaren.

Valls attends his fifth Tour de France as one of the lieutenants of his compatriot Mikel Landa in this edition of the gala round.

The 33-year-old cyclist was involved in the last fall of a stage marked by the numerous incidents caused by the rain that turned the Nice road and its surroundings into a skating rink.
