American actor Chadwick Boseman, star of the hit superhero movie “Black Panther” has died of cancer, his family announced Friday.
The actor died at his home in Los Angeles accompanied by his wife and family.
Boseman never spoke publicly about his illness.
“A true fighter. Chadwick persevered and participated in many of the films that you all enjoyed so much,” his family said in a statement.
“They were all filmed during and between countless operations and chemotherapy sessions. The honor of his life was to embody King T’Challa in Black Panther,” he added.
Boseman also brought to life two other black icons: the baseball player. Jackie Robinson in 2013 in the movie “42” and the musician James brown and 2014 and “Get On Up”.
This Friday, the Major League Baseball in the United States commemorated the day of Jackie Robinson, one of the first black stars of the sport of baseball.
But Boseman will be remembered most of all for starring in “Black Panther,” the first superhero movie to earn a best picture nomination at the Oscars.
