To obtain these resources, the DNP invited potential beneficiaries to consult the devolucioniva.dnp.gov.co page and verify if they are favored with this state support.
After confirming that close to a million poor and vulnerable households received compensation for this tax, the director of the DNP, Luis Alberto Rodríguez, stated that this shows that VAT could be returned.
The most vulnerable families spend 7.3% of their income paying VAT, while the wealthiest households use 4.3%.
The VAT refund was approved last December through the Economic Growth Law and it is estimated that this year it will cost the national treasury close to half a trillion pesos.
Its implementation was initially planned for some 100,000 households, but as a result of the economic emergency caused by the coronavirus pandemic, it was determined to overtake it and reach one million families.
Likewise, the VAT refund is focused on the population of the 1,100 municipalities with high poverty rates or with a significant concentration of vulnerable households.
