The commander of the National Navy at a press conference on Tuesday announced the departure of a colonel, a captain, three NCOs and nine Marines, after the incident of three artillery boats that ended up in Venezuelan territory.

In a press conference this Tuesday, Admiral Evelio Ramírez, commander of the National Navy, announced that it was decided to withdraw from active duty Lieutenant Colonel Marine Corps and Commander of Marine Corps Battalion number 51, “And the captain of the Marine Infantry, chief of operations section and commander of the river units of that unit, of which the Marine Infantry combat element number 51-2 is organic.”

In all, a colonel, a captain, three NCOs and nine Marines were removed from their duties, after the incident of the three artillery boats that They ended up in Venezuelan territory after being washed away by the current of the Orinoco River.

“These withdrawal decisions are made before the serious impact on the service and as a consequence of the events that occurred, ”said Ramírez.

He also gave details and results of the investigation carried out to the interior of the institution, warning that if any responsibility was proven by uniformed officers of the force that he directs, these will be subject to sanctions.

“It was established that the place where the boats were insured did not comply with the conditions of land stability and secure moorings,” said Ramírez, identifying this as the reason why the boats ended up drifting, until crossing the limits Colombian-Venezuelan maritime companies.

According to the commander of the Navy, the cost of inventory total involved in the scandal amounts to $ 625’813,160, including the weapons that were on board the boats.
