Navy withdraws NCOs for boats that ended up in Venezuela – Investigation – Justice

After this weekend three Colombian artillery boats ended up in Venezuelan territory, the Navy Naval Command announced on Tuesday that 14 uniformed officers were removed from their positions for committing offenses that led to the boats being dragged by the Orinoco River until ending up in the neighboring country.

As indicated by the Naval Command, as a result of the advanced actions it was possible to demonstrate “the non-compliance with the river tactical procedures by the crew of the River Combat Element No.51-2, which led to the fact that at the time of the emergency there was no were able to act in a timely manner. “

For that reason he retired from active duty ats three NCOs and the 9 professional Marines who were directly responsible of the integrity of the boats at the time of the events.

Additionally, due to the omissions and failures related to command, control and supervision responsibilities, the Navy withdrew the lieutenant colonel in the marine infantry who was the commander of Battalion No. 51, as well as the marine infantry captain who was chief of the operations section and commander of the river units of that battalion.

The Navy added that the investigation will continue to determine disciplinary responsibility and whether the events occurred due to intent or fault.Lastly, they indicated that they will continue taking the corresponding steps to return the three boats that went to Venezuela.
