He assured that “we beat people for being on the street when they have been authorized to leave.” He also spoke about what is coming for Bogotá.

In interview with Blu Radio, the mayor of the Colombian capital stated that the first day of this new quarantine phase leaves a positive balance.

“It went well for us in several ways because we managed to apply the schedules. We ensure that the Transmilenio system does not collapse, that we have the necessary frequency. Yesterday the occupation did not rise at peak hours, it began to rise at off-peak hours, ”said Claudia López.

He added that there are currently more than two million people on the streets. And he answered questions about the street vendors being seen in the center of Bogotá.

“The more people there are on the street, the more street vendors there are going to be on the streets selling things to those people. When there were no people on the street, there were no street vendors, there were no customers. Even with that, we have much less people leaving, “said the president.

He also assured that a contradictory message is being sent: “We beat people for being on the street when they have been authorized to go out.”

And he added: “If the president continues to send people to the streets, the most important thing we have to learn is how to go out on the street safely. Every time the president opens his mouth – he makes an announcement saying that quarantine is going to be relaxed – every minute more people go out. Our efforts now have to be directed at teaching people how to safely go out and work. ”

Claudia López, who has had her differences with the handling that President Iván Duque has made of the pandemic of the COVID-19, maintained that if it were the strict quarantine it would go until June.

In addition, he recalled that “the mask is not for the neck, it has to cover the nose and mouth.”

Finally, he sent a clear message to everyone who is leaving their homes.

“It is impossible to stop every citizen, we cannot control who leaves or who does not leave; our effort is how it is going out into the street, it is to verify that nobody leaves without masks, that is fine, “he said.
